Academic Board

The Academic Board is the principal academic body in the University, and has power to make recommendations and reports to the Council on matters affecting the University, including research, courses of study, students, bursaries and scholarships, prizes and examinations.

The Academic Board

The Academic Board co-ordinates the work of the faculties and all departments and is responsible for advising the Council on all academic matters.

Academic Board Meeting Dates

It comprises:

  • Vice-Chancellor
  • Deputy Vice-Chancellor
  • Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic)
  • Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Māori)
  • Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research)
  • College Pro-Vice-Chancellors
  • Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning Resources)
  • Deans (including the Dean of Postgraduate Studies)
  • Heads of Schools/Academic Departments
  • Directors of University Research Centres or their nominees
  • Chairs of Academic Board Committees
  • One academic staff member of the Council elected by the continuing members of the academic community at large
  • Seven academic staff members from each of the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Forestry, Commerce and Education (at least five elected from faculty and up to two may be nominated by the Dean and approved by the faculty
  • Two academic staff members elected from the Faculty of Law
  • One academic staff member elected from the Faculty of Creative Arts
  • Seven students selected by UCSA
  • One student representing Maori students selected by Te Akatoki

Senior Management Team

The Senior Management Team is the advisory committee to the Vice-Chancellor. The committee makes recommendations on the management of, and develops policies for, the University as a whole.
