ESOL Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are wanted to help refugees and migrants with their English language skills and resettlement in Christchurch.

The Christchurch ESOL Community Tutor Scheme trains volunteers to teach English to refugees and migrants on a one-to-one basis, in the learner's home.

At present the Scheme has tutors providing English language support to nearly 200 refugees and migrants from 37 countries.

You don't need any previous English language teaching experience - just enthusiasm and a desire to work with people from other cultures.

Training courses for volunteers are NZQA approved and are available on weekends as well as during the working week. Once trained, volunteer tutors are matched up with an English language learner in their area and usually spend about an hour a week tutoring them.

For further information contact the Scheme's co-ordinators Joy, Judith or Gabrielle on 377 3141 or email chchesol@ihug.co.nz
