Nominations
for Director, The New Zealand Institute of Gene Ecology
The New Zealand Institute of Gene Ecology (NZIGE) is now requesting
nominations for the position of DIRECTOR, to serve in that position
for up to 5 years.
The NZIGE is a new University of Canterbury research centre with
extensive national and international linkages.
You can learn more about the Institute by visiting our web

Suitable candidates will have experience in leading a research
organisation with a key public interface goal.
Professional experience in one or more areas of gene ecology
preferred. The Director
must be an employee of the University of Canterbury.

History
Department call for Tutors 2002
The
History Department requires tutors to assist with tutorials, in first
and second year courses for the 2002 academic year.
Applications are being called for Tutors for courses in both
the first and second half of the year, as well as whole year
courses.
All applications to be made in writing to the Head of Department,
Professor Miles Fairburn, no later than 1 February 2002.

Staff Preventive Health Care Service
The UC "Staff Preventive Health
Care" service has proved very popular and is available to all staff
of the University of Canterbury
The service operates on Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
(initial
appointments) and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (follow-up
appointments).
This free and confidential service, available at the University
Health
Centre, is being provided by the Occupational Health Nurse, Ms Rose
Corner,
in co-operation with the University Health Centre.
The health checks offered include:
Blood pressure monitoring, blood glucose testing, urine testing (for
kidney disease, high blood pressure and diabetes), basic eye testing,
weight management, blood cholesterol/lipid testing, smoking cessation
advice.
Access to the service is by appointment. To make an appointment
please contact the University Health Centre on telephone 6402, and
request an appointment for a Staff Preventive Health Care
Check. Appointments will be approximately 15 minutes
duration.

Ad Hoc Room Bookings
A web site link has been
established at: www.blds.canterbury.ac.nz
(click on the "Room Bookings" link) for purposes of assisting
staff in booking University rooms on Ilam Campus for intended after
hours use. [NOTE: After hours refers to weekdays 6pm 8am,
weekends from 6pm Friday]. It is essential that Facilities
Management are advised regarding the proposed use of rooms. This
allows for service inputs regarding security and heating or cooling.
If a confirmed booking is not in place and staff are called out after
hours, a cost is incurred to the University and must be
recovered.
The remote request for a room booking is automatically forwarded to
Frances Register, Room Bookings Co-Ordinator. When the room status is
determined, a confirmation or decline notice will be sent, the
booking entered on Syllabus+ and notification lodged to Security and
Works & Services. Bookings may also continue to be made via
telephone ext 6648, Fax 6484, f.register@regy.canterbury.ac.nz.

The AUS recommends that its members

deposits cover in New Zealand for long term travellers who return

Ltd
Canterprise Ltd is the commercial
arm of the University of Canterbury. Canterprise handles commercial
activities, including staff consulting, commercial research
contracts, technology transfer and commercialisation of intellectual
property. Canterprise will provide advice on the formulation of
contracts, including costing, confidentiality arrangements, and
intellectual property protection. Canterprise assists staff in
obtaining funding from investors, industry and Technology New
