Yes, it’s that time again! Time to get your walking boots/running shoes on and get your entries in for this popular event.
For the uninitiated the Fun Run and Walk is not a race. You don’t even have to break into a run! A five person team specifies the combined time it will take to complete the course and the winner is the team which finishes the course closest to their nominated time. Teams can complete the course as a group, or include runners, joggers and walkers combining their times. Watches are not allowed.
The course itself is not daunting. It can be completed within 40 minutes at a moderate walking pace and in less than 15 minutes for those who are keen runners. Some practice will help in establishing the team time.
The event is designed as a fun event and everybody is encouraged to have a go. You can send an individual entry in if you wish and we will place you in a team. Entries close on Friday 3rd December. Maps and entry forms have been sent to all departments. However, if you missed out there are extra copies available from Reception at the Recreation Centre. Any enquiries can be directed to Craig Motley, ext 8204 or on craig.motley@canterbury.ac.nz.
The new Uni Hall flats are available for summer bookings for both University of Canterbury people and for casual visitors. Most flats have 5-6 single bedrooms though some smaller flats may be available. In January visitors can book Bed and Breakfast in refurbished single and twin rooms. Bookings are available now until 30 January. Contact melanie.brigden@canterbury.ac.nz.
In addition to summer accommodation, Uni Hall's 12 rooms for postgrad visitors will continue to run through summer and into 2005, although February is already full.
Registrations are now open for the Human Interface Technology Laboratory New Zealand’s (HIT Lab NZ) International Virtual Worlds Consortium to be held at the University of Canterbury from 10-11 February 2005.
The theme of the Consortium is Industry Creativity Research: Partners in Innovation.
Keynote speakers include MIT’s Associate Professor of Media Arts and Sciences Hiroshi Ishii, an expert researcher in human-computer interaction who regularly collaborates on projects that blur the boundaries between a variety of arts, design, and scientific disciplines.
Also attending will be Professor Tom Furness, Founding Director of the HIT Lab at the University of Washington and the international director of HIT Lab NZ Ltd, as well as representatives from a number of national and international companies.
For further information contact: Anna-Lee Mason, HIT Lab NZ on 03 364
