This year, NZ Daylight Saving will come into effect one week earlier and finish two weeks later than usual. Daylight saving will begin at 2am Sunday 30 September.
Managing this time transition is usually automated by the calendar software. Where Government changes from the established daylight saving dates, this usually means that the software will no longer work as intended, and it becomes a local issue for users to compensate for that.
In our case, this means any appointments or recurring meetings you created, or room resources that have been booked before the 30 August, for the week Sunday 30 September to Sunday 7 October may be out by an hour.
You will need to check these, update as necessary and "send the update" through to all attendees. Where there are large numbers of appointments to adjust, you may prefer to contact your local IT support person for help.
Other email clients, such as Entourage, will not handle calendars correctly. While they can still be used for email, you should use Outlook Web Access for your appointments during the week 30 September to 7 October.
You can use Outlook Web Access from any web browser. Go to https://exchange.canterbury.ac.nz/.
For more information, or if you have any questions about this issue
please contact the ICTS helpdesk.
Closing date for applications — 9 October
The opportunity to bid for the Teaching and Learning Committee's Teaching Development Grants for next year (2008) is now available.
There are two sizes of grants: between $5,000-$10,000 and from $10,000-$30,000. This funding will be available from 1 January 2008.
Applications should be made on the form available on the web uctl.canterbury.ac.nz and submitted to Linda Bowman, Secretary, Teaching and Learning Committee, in UCTL.
These larger development grants may be used to undertake significant programme restructuring; investigating a new method of curriculum delivery; evaluating and redesigning of a group of interconnected courses; considering an interdisciplinary development of courses; linking teaching and research for undergraduate students; or a major review and evaluation of assessment within a programme.
For informal and formative discussions prior to submissions, please
contact Alison Holmes extension 6463 or Alison.holmes@canterbury.ac.nz.

SOFA Gallery is pleased to present Cutting
a Dash an exhibition
of works by Sandra Thomson.
Curated by Dr Pamela Gerrish Nunn, this exhibition of works by Sandra
Thomson reconsiders some key aspects of her body of work thus far.
Thomson's prints have a distinctive expressive technique that meshes
with the subject matter to create tension and vigour. Her woodcut
technique of creating deep flowing rivers of lines produces animated
surfaces filled with colour. The works investigate the struggle of
understanding the female condition, Catholic ties and the female
body, the division between the body as idea and as material object.
Sandra Thomson graduated from the University of Canterbury in 1981.
She teaches drawing and printmaking at CPIT in Christchurch. Dr Pamela
Gerrish Nunn is Associate Professor in Art History at the University
of Canterbury.
