As part of the merger agreement the University undertook to review its Learning Management Systems (LMS), with a view to supporting just one University wide system. Most of the Colleges use Blackboard while the College of Education uses Interact.
Currently an evaluation of learning management system software is taking place at Canterbury. The Project has a timeframe of September 2007 to February 2010.

Dr John Wood, former New Zealand Ambassador to the United States and Adjunct Professor of Political Science and Communication at Canterbury University, will deliver a public lecture entitled "American Negotiating Behaviour".
Earlier this year, Dr Wood was invited by the President of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) to take part in a workshop to analyse American negotiating behaviour. In this lecture Dr Wood will give a taste of the exchanges that took place at the USIP workshop and share some of his experiences in negotiating with the United States.
Dr Wood served three times in Washington DC, as Deputy Chief of
Mission and as New Zealand Ambassador (1994-1998 and 2002-2006).
He was International Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister and has
held other ambassadorial appointments to Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.
He is a Canterbury University alumnus.

One day workshop to create awareness among researchers and graduate students on key issues associated with commercialising intellectual property at UC.
Presenter is Piet Beukman, Director of Engineering Management Programme at University of Canterbury and Director of Holliday Corporation, local angel investment firm. Guest speakers from AJ Park (Intellectual Property Law); Foundation for Research Science and Technology (Government funding opportunities); Holliday Corp (Venture funding) and Deloitte (Corporate finance).

The Government’s new Research and Development policy will enable eligible entities to claim research credits from the IRD. Aaron Thorn, a partner of Deloitte who has experience of this kind of regime in Australia, will give a presentation on what the benefits could be for the University of Canterbury.
The presentation is open to researchers, research administrators and other interested parties.
1–31 October — The Lounge, Central Library
Staff and Students are invited to visit an exhibition which examines the presence of Māori in the School of Fine Arts, and pays tribute to the contribution of eminent Māori artist and educator Jonathan Manē-Wheoki. The exhibition was curated and written by Dr Jo Diamond, Dept of Art History with support from Terri Elder, the University Art Curator.
The works in this exhibition highlight the diversity within the art of Māori graduates, and demonstrate the importance of the special connections that are sometimes made between teachers and students. It also acknowledges the important contribution Māori culture has made, and continues to make, at this University.

Staff are invited to attend a Cyber Liability seminar to be presented by Jonathan Forsey of law firm Duncan Cotterill. Lunch will be provided. There will be a 50-minutes presentation with the opportunity for questions and case studies between 1pm and 1.30pm.
Mr Forsey will discuss email defamation, cyber libel, internet access, electronic contracts and transactions, anti-spam legislation and the legal context with respect to legislation such as the Privacy Act, Official Information Act, Fair Trading Act, Public Records Act and others.
This seminar is suitable for all, and would be of particular relevance for staff with privacy and other compliance responsibilities within their areas.
