Classics lecturer Dr Patrick O'Sullivan will deliver an illustrated public lecture entitled "Sex, drinking and other religious activity in Ancient Greece".
The lecture will look at the Greek symposium, or drinking party, as not only an aristocratic social phenomenon but as an occasion for sophisticated and earthy sensual pleasures, where the presence of Dionysus (god of wine, release and creative energy) and Aphrodite (goddess of procreative energy) were paramount. Reference will be made to a number of vases in the Logie Collection of Antiquities housed in the classics department.

The 30th Annual Inter-departmental Fun Run and Walk is not a race — a five person team specifies the combined time it will take to complete the course and the winner is the team which finishes the course closest to their nominated time. Teams can complete the course as a group, or include runners, joggers and walkers combining their times.
The course can be completed within 40 minutes at a moderate walking pace and in less than 15 minutes for those who are runners. Some practice will help in establishing the team time and this is encouraged.
The event is designed as a fun event and everybody is encouraged to have a go. You can send an individual entry in if you wish and we will place you in a team where possible. Entries close on Friday 7 December. Maps and entry forms have been sent to all departments. However, if you missed out, there are extra copies available from reception at the Recreation Centre. Any enquiries can be directed to Grant on ext 8416 or grant.robertson@canterbury.ac.nz.
UC Design requires a minimum of five working days to complete a small to medium size job. If a shorter turnaround time is required you will be charged a 25% rush fee. The first day is measured at the time we receive all the information to complete the job, if this occurs after 12pm the first day will start on the next working day.
More time is required to complete larger jobs and if other clients’ jobs need to be bumped in order to complete your job then a fee will be charged; to insure that you do not incur a fee please consult with the UC Design team first.
In some cases, you might get your job in less than five working days depending on our workflow at the time. As long as no other clients’ jobs are bumped in order to complete your job, a fee will not be charged.
UC Design makes the upmost effort to ensure that all timelines are
met and practices the procedure of queuing jobs in the order they
are received. UC Design discourages ‘queue jumping’ and endeavours
to create a fair and equal environment in which all clients can receive
their work in a timely manner.
To contact the UC Design Team please email all new jobs to ucdesign@canterbury.ac.nz.
