We would now invite staff to complete a survey on LMS use. Please check your inbox for the email and link.

SOFA Gallery is pleased to present He Panga Rawe: Special Connections. Curated by Dr Jo Diamond, this exhibition features the presence of Maori in the School of Fine Arts, in celebration of the School's 125th anniversary.
In keeping with the University of Canterbury's campus-wide support of Treaty of Waitangi partnership ideals and Equal Opportunity policies, the School of Fine Arts has supported Maori presence amongst its staff and students, particularly within the last 40 years. The exhibition therefore demonstrates the importance of special connections that have been made between teachers and students in relation to Maori culture. Particularly in this sense, the exhibition pays tribute to the contribution of eminent Maori artist, art historian and educator Jonathan Mane-Wheoki.
The works in this exhibition highlight the diversity within, and the impressive volume of, the art of Maori students, who are now emergent and established artists in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. They also include works by non-Maori artists whose primary cultural reference is Maori. The exhibited works therefore exemplify the very important contribution Maori culture has made, and continues to make, at the University of Canterbury.
SOFA Gallery thanks The SOFA Support Trust for funding this exhibition. SOFA is proudly supported by Sign Displays, Resene Paints and CoCA.

The University of Canterbury is running a pilot staff mentoring programme for a small group of academic staff in 2008. We will look to extend the programme in 2009 should the scheme prove beneficial to the staff who participate.
We invite expressions of interest from academic staff at all levels within the University to form our pool of potential mentors. One mentor per department or school will give us a potential pool of thirty plus mentors — a larger pool would be ideal.
The longest time commitment we will seek from you is until the end of 2008 when we will evaluate the programme. In that time you are likely to meet at least once a month for an hour (depending on what is agreed between you and the mentee.) You would also be asked to come along to a short meeting of all mentors prior to committing to the programme.
Please see the Staff Mentoring website or contact Karen Mather for more information.

Classics lecturer Dr Patrick O'Sullivan will deliver an illustrated public lecture entitled "Sex, drinking and other religious activity in Ancient Greece".
The lecture will look at the Greek symposium, or drinking party, as not only an aristocratic social phenomenon but as an occasion for sophisticated and earthy sensual pleasures, where the presence of Dionysus (god of wine, release and creative energy) and Aphrodite (goddess of procreative energy) were paramount. Reference will be made to a number of vases in the Logie Collection of Antiquities housed in the classics department.

The 30th Annual Inter-departmental Fun Run and Walk is not a race — a five person team specifies the combined time it will take to complete the course and the winner is the team which finishes the course closest to their nominated time. Teams can complete the course as a group, or include runners, joggers and walkers combining their times.
The course can be completed within 40 minutes at a moderate walking pace and in less than 15 minutes for those who are runners. Some practice will help in establishing the team time and this is encouraged.
The event is designed as a fun event and everybody is encouraged to have a go. You can send an individual entry in if you wish and we will place you in a team where possible. Entries close on Friday 7 December. Maps and entry forms have been sent to all departments. However, if you missed out, there are extra copies available from reception at the Recreation Centre. Any enquiries can be directed to Grant on ext 8416 or grant.robertson@canterbury.ac.nz.
UC Design requires a minimum of five working days to complete a small to medium size job. If a shorter turnaround time is required you will be charged a 25% rush fee. The first day is measured at the time we receive all the information to complete the job, if this occurs after 12pm the first day will start on the next working day.
More time is required to complete larger jobs and if other clients’ jobs need to be bumped in order to complete your job then a fee will be charged; to insure that you do not incur a fee please consult with the UC Design team first.
In some cases, you might get your job in less than five working days depending on our workflow at the time. As long as no other clients’ jobs are bumped in order to complete your job, a fee will not be charged.
UC Design makes the upmost effort to ensure that all timelines are
met and practices the procedure of queuing jobs in the order they
are received. UC Design discourages ‘queue jumping’ and endeavours
to create a fair and equal environment in which all clients can receive
their work in a timely manner.
To contact the UC Design Team please email all new jobs to ucdesign@canterbury.ac.nz.
