Foundation for Research, Science & Technology: Technet 2007/2008 scheme - Increased budget allocation for UC

As a result of a recent review by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (FRST), the University of Canterbury has received a further budget allocation to our overarching TechNet 07/08 Scheme contract. This essentially means we have more funds for distribution under this scheme. To maintain this level of funding for future years, we would like to see staff maximising the use of these funds as much as possible.

We would like to call for expressions of interest from anyone who is keen to utilise this source of funding. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact John Duncan, ext 7849 john.duncan@canterbury.ac.nz.

The Technet 2007/2008 scheme enables experts in Crown Research Institutes (CRIs), universities and research organisations to work with companies that are in need of advice to solve technical problems that are impeding innovation and future growth.

The scheme provides a maximum of $5000 (incl GST) for eligible projects. Funding does not require co-funding for eligible projects. Funding for TechNet is available for companies with a turnover under $50 million per annum and registered for GST, and can be used just once for each technical problem intended to be used strategically (ideally contact with the expert leads to an ongoing working relationship and future innovation within the company).

TechNet funding can be used to support any of the following activities:

  • technology project design,
  • planning and assessment technology gap and opportunity
  • assessment technology advice and guidance
  • technical or technological feasibility
  • technology investigation and acquisition
  • strategic technology planning, including Technology for Business Growth (TBG) proposal planning.
