International Programmes, UCO, are proposing to offer
a trip of a life time to the coldest, driest, windiest continent
on the earth – Antarctica. We are seeking your opinions, feedback
and expressions of interest for such a trip.
Tentatively, we would like to see this study tour comprise of a lecture
series before a 2 week trip via South America to the ice.
The study component would be in the form of a specialised dvd, personalised
for this particular study tour by experts over in Antarctic Gateways
here at UC. The dvd would allow participants to study at their own
pace, at home, whenever suits. It would be recommended that study
commences 3 months prior to the sailing.
The tour to the ice itself would be on board, sailing from South
America for 10 days. On board the learning will continue with experts
in their field sharing stories and holding lectures and discussions.
The sailing is proposed for late (Nov – Dec) 09.
To comment or give feedback, suggest or express your interest, contact
Martina at martina.rangihuna@canterbury.ac.nz.

Friday 4 April, 11am-12pm; 7, 9, 11 April, 10-11am - Room 253, Te Ao Mārama complex, School of Māori and Indigenous Studies
There is a Māori protocol element in this year's graduation. It involves a karanga (call), mihi (welcoming speech) and waiata tautoko (supporting song). This element will be incorporated into all four graduations on 16 and 18 April. Therefore, the School of Māori and Indigenous Studies will be conducting practice sessions for all UC staff. This is especially important for staff that are in the stage parties for each graduation.
If you are unable to come to these practises the words and explanation to the song have been posted on the web. A sound file is also available at the bottom of the webpage.

7.30pm, 2-5 April. Tickets $18 — Elmwood Auditorium, 31 Aikmans Road, Merivale
There’s more in the air than the smell of fresh washing when Pamela Maude makes a routine visit to her Hill’s Hoist clothesline. She’s not quite prepared for the well-dressed stranger — short of stature but with impeccable taste in ties — lying with a kitchen knife protruding from his chest. Her gruesome find is just the start of a bizarre and hilarious chain of events for her, her wannabe-actress sister and their 30-something friends, which includes the discovery of more coincidental corpses, fierce sibling rivalry, a mysterious double-pregnancy and an uncloseting.
Casually demented but seriously funny, this comedy by Beatrix Christian has played to sell-out seasons throughout Australia. The Elmwood Players production, directed by Anita Hallewas, marks its New Zealand premiere.
To book, phone (03) 355 8874 or visit www.elmwood-players.org.nz.
