Canterbury Educational Printing Services — CEPS (formerly known as UC Print + Copy), has begun a progressive move into new premises at the Warehouse/Recreation Centre building on Kirkwood Avenue.
As of Thursday 1 May, the CEPS reception and administrative team, currently located on the 2nd floor of the ICTS Butterfly building, will be located in the new premises. On Friday 2 May, the Pre Press and Colour Printing team will relocate from the Central Registry basement into the new premises. All telephone extensions and email addresses will remain the same.
The rest of the Central Registry basement Print Room team is due to move across on Tuesday 20 May.
How to place an order with CEPS: University staff can eitherwalk across to the reception at the new building or if time is of the essence then Print Orders can be deposited at the Library Copy Centre counter located along the eastern wall of Level 2 in the James Height Library building.
For more complex work that may require the use of external print providers and/or the inclusion of the UC Design team, our Print Procurement professional, Simon White, is available to call on you directly at your office between the hours of 10.30am and 11.30am each day. Simon can be contacted on ext 3098.
Many University staff are now using our online ordering system, Ultraware, for the upload of simpler Print Orders directly into the Print Room. This system is easy to use and is well suited to printed work that is of moderate run length and printed in black onto A4 or A3 paper stocks. Contact Janette Winks on ext 6908 for more information about this system.
CEPS are actively seeking to discourage the practice of placing Print Orders with documents to emails. The preferred method of sending electronic Print Requests is via Ultraware. Please do not send Print Order emails with documents attached to an individual CEPS staff member. If email must be used, send only to printcopy@canterbury.ac.nz or copycentre@canterbury.ac.nz. If responding to an electronically sent proof, then please reply to prepress@canterbury.ac.nz.
This is a change to how we have previously operated and reflects our desire to channel all electronic orders through Ultraware. If you are used to emailing Print Orders via emails with attachments, then you are an ideal candidate for Ultraware. Please contact Janette to arrange training.
Of course print orders can still be forwarded to us via the internal mail system.
Return delivery of printed work: Coinciding with the relocation of CEPS is a revamp of our internal delivery service. The warehouse delivery team will now provide a twice daily delivery service from the Print Room to all internal departments on both campuses. Except in some rare, pre-negotiated instances, CEPS will no longer be making any internal deliveries.
The team at CEPS is confident that the combination of the move to new premises and multiple options for your placement of print orders will result in a more efficient service delivery to you, our valued customers.

Survey closes 5 May 2008.
If you currently use or are interested in using a wiki at UC please
take a few minutes to fill in this survey survey.it.canterbury.ac.nz.
Wikipedia defines a wiki as "software that allows users to collaboratively
create, edit, link, and organize the content of a website, usually
for reference material. Wikis are often used to create collaborative
websites and to power community websites". The full wikipedia
reference can be seen at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki.
This survey aims to find out what uses are currently made of wikis at UC, if there is a demand for new wikis and to see if there is a need for a university wide infrastructure for wiki software. It is being run by the Wiki Working Group, a subcommittee of ITAC, the University's Information Technology Advisory Committee.
Thank you for your participation, Anne Scott (Library). Wiki Working Group Chair.
Following extensive consultation and evaluation over the last six months, the Learning Management System (LMS) Review is now moving to begin a trial of Moodle, the system selected as a possible alternative to Blackboard for the University's single supported LMS.
The trial will take place with courses taught over the Second Semester.
We are now calling for nominations and expressions of interest for
20-30 courses to take part in the trial. We will compile a portfolio
of courses which represent a range of different types of courses
and subjects.
UCTL will provide assistance and advice in conversion and setup of courses in the time up to the start of Semester 2, and provide support during the semester.
To apply, please contact Emma de Lacey, emma.delacey@canterbury.ac.nz, ext 6165.
A smaller but parallel trial will take place with some College of Education lecturers developing courses on Blackboard. If you are interested, please contact Emma.
Background to the LMS Review is available at http://studentnet.canterbury.ac.nz/lmsreview. A progress report will be published in the next two weeks.
