All University of Canterbury laptops will now be covered by the University's Laptop Insurance Policy and the premium for this insurance will be met centrally. This policy extends to all laptops purchased since 1 March 2004* and is effective immediately. There is nothing that you need to do to secure this insurance.
We have also been successful in setting the deductible (excess) at $500, irrespective of the laptop's location in the event of a loss.
The generosity and goodwill of the Chief Financial Officer, our broker from Marsh and the insurer have been instrumental in securing this very positive outcome for the University.
The new policy and amendments to claim procedures will shortly be posted on the UC insurance intranet (https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/piru/insurance.shtml) but in the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact either Jacqui Lyttle or Marie Menzies in PIRU.

Research and Consultancy and the Library are pleased to announce the following enhancements:
Ability to upload documents to output records
Electronic copies of outputs can now be uploaded directly to an output
record in the UC People & Research database. Database users
will be able to upload the final published version of the output
for output verification (a PBRF requirement) and/or upload a preprint
version of the output for inclusion in the Library’s UC Research
Repository, a full text open-access archive (http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/).
For further information please contact the Library or see https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/library/repository/.
Linking publications on your UC Research Profile page to copies
in the UC Research Repository
The UC Research Profile (to be released 4th June 2008) includes a
list of a person’s outputs on their person Profile page. When a copy
of the output is held in the UC Research Repository, the output on
the Profile page will include a link to the copy in the UC Research
Repository - giving Profile users an opportunity to access the work
of researcher’s they are interested in. Linking between the UC Research
Profile and the UC Research Repository will occur automatically when
a copy of the output is entered into the UC Research Repository.
All PE/CRE
The database has been expanded to include an All PE/CRE module,
to assist staff with recording their research activities (peer esteem
and contributions to the research environment). This module will
work similarly to the current All Outputs module - staff
can enter a PE or CRE item at any time and it will be stored and
available for other uses (downloading reports, PBRF, etc).
Updated subject areas/disciplines
Several additions have been made to the Subject Areas/Disciplines
available for selection in the UC Research Profile. Please view
these updates via the Research and Consultancy intranet (url) or
on the UC Research Profile (staff can access the Profile via their
‘My Home’ page of the database, then go to Browse/Subject Area:
Disciplines).
If you have any questions about the UC People & Research database or the UC Research Profile please contact Maxine Bryant in Research and Consultancy (maxine.bryant@canterbury.ac.nz, ext 4028). If you have any questions about the UC Research Repository please contact the Library.
