The following shows the confirmed statutory and University holidays over the Christmas/New Year period 2008/2009 for those members of staff covered by the provisions of the Collective Agreements or corresponding Individual Agreements listed below.
Advice concerning these matters for staff covered by other agreements not listed will be issued in due course by the appropriate authority.
The University will close at the end of Tuesday 23 December 2008 and will re-open on Monday 5 January 2009. During this period (including statutory and University holidays) the Security Office (under the Main Library) will be open around the clock.
The Contact Centre for the 0800 Varsity number and the enrol@canterbury.ac.nz email
service and website will remain open between Christmas and New Year
for the hours 8am to 6pm. (The main University telephone exchange
– 366 7001 – is closed during this period).
Please ensure that all your staff are notified of the vacation dates for 2008/2009. Enquiries regarding this leave entitlement should be referred in the first instance to the relevant Human Resources Advisor.

The following policies/procedures (pdf documents) have been reviewed and updated in the UC Policy Library:
For other recent additions and reviews go the UC
Policy Library Home Page and click on UPDATES in the left
side bar.
Learn to manage your references and save time creating your bibliography by using EndNote.
If you have already attended an EndNote class and have specific difficulties, please contact your Information Librarian for assistance.
Research and Consultancy and the Library are pleased to announce the following enhancements:
Ability to upload documents to output records
Electronic copies of outputs can now be uploaded directly to an output
record in the UC People & Research database. Database users
will be able to upload the final published version of the output
for output verification (a PBRF requirement) and/or upload a preprint
version of the output for inclusion in the Library’s UC Research
Repository, a full text open-access archive (http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/).
For further information please contact the Library or see https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/library/repository/.
Linking publications on your UC Research Profile page to copies
in the UC Research Repository
The UC Research Profile (released on 4 June 2008) includes a
list of a person’s outputs on their person Profile page. When a copy
of the output is held in the UC Research Repository, the output on
the Profile page will include a link to the copy in the UC Research
Repository - giving Profile users an opportunity to access the work
of researcher’s they are interested in. Linking between the UC Research
Profile and the UC Research Repository will occur automatically when
a copy of the output is entered into the UC Research Repository.
All PE/CRE
The database has been expanded to include an All PE/CRE module,
to assist staff with recording their research activities (peer esteem
and contributions to the research environment). This module will
work similarly to the current All Outputs module - staff
can enter a PE or CRE item at any time and it will be stored and
available for other uses (downloading reports, PBRF, etc).
Updated subject areas/disciplines
Several additions have been made to the Subject Areas/Disciplines
available for selection in the UC Research Profile. Please view
these updates via the Research and Consultancy intranet or
on the UC Research Profile (staff can access the Profile via their
‘My Home’ page of the database, then go to Browse/Subject Area:
Disciplines).
If you have any questions about the UC People & Research database
or the UC Research Profile please contact Maxine Bryant in Research
and Consultancy (maxine.bryant@canterbury.ac.nz,
ext 4028). If you have any questions about the UC Research Repository
please contact the Library.

HI there, my name is Sho. I’m a Boxer crossed with a Border Collie
and I’m nearly five and my Mum, well, she works a lot. I get really
lonely, so we talked about it and we agreed that I need a happy family
to live with. Mum says I’m total love – she has trained me well,
I do as I’m told – I love cuddles and don’t chase cats and play well
with other dogs and children. I’ve been spayed and had all my shots
and Mum has my breeding papers. I don’t wander or do anything naughty.
If you’d like to live with me, call me and Mum – Kerry on 021 0753
