UC Events Calendar

Earlier this year a new events site was launched on the University website (www.canterbury.ac.nz/events). The site can also be accessed by clicking on "more events" at the bottom of the University homepage.

The database-driven site allows staff to search on a wide range of events from academic conferences and seminars through to concerts and exhibitions. A feature of the new site is an "add to calendar" button that allows users to save an event into their Microsoft Outlook calendar.

An advantage of the system is that users can see in advance what is happening at the University on any given day. Staff are encouraged to check the database when organising events so as to avoid clashes.

Staff from throughout the University are now entering events directly into the system. Instructions on how to enter events can be found at https://intranet.canterbury.ac.nz/newsroom/forms/EventEdit.aspx?Item_id=0&type=event

If you need assistance in uploading events please contact michele.downer@canterbury.ac.nz.

Asia-Pacific Advanced Network Consortium Meeting (APAN26)

APAN26 is being held from 4-8 August 2008 at the Millennium Hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand, following on from the High Performance Research Symposium. APAN26 will explore how ICT developments and advanced networks are changing research and collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region - and contributing towards environmental, regional and operational sustainability. This event is a rare opportunity for New Zealand’s education and research sector to connect with power users of advanced network applications and services.

See http://www.reannz.net.nz/apan26/ for further details.

Please also note that APAN26 and the High Performance Research Symposium have separate registration – registration for one event does not include registration for the other event.

Tour guides wanted for contemporary art exhibition

Volunteers are invited to work with Marnie Slater, a New Zealand artist, to develop and perform a series of exhibition tours for SCAPE 2008 Christchurch Biennial of Art in Public Space to be held over September, October and November of this year.

The tours will be centred on the works in SCAPE 2008, the wider context and history of the biennial and the city of Christchurch and will provide an opportunity for the articulation of diverse, personal, critical and potentially differing viewpoints. The tours will attempt to locate SCAPE within the social and political fabric of Christchurch. The tours will offer public audiences access to a wide range of voices through a process of structured wanderings or guided experiences, and will provide a broad scope of approaches to the projects and position of the SCAPE Biennial and its role within Christchurch city.

Volunteers need no previous tour guide or public speaking experience as support will be given but an interest in art would be an advantage. Tour guides will be expected to attend a series of workshops to be held in central Christchurch over July and August. During SCAPE 2008 tours will run weekly, with each guide giving a minimum of one public tour.

To register your interest by 15 July or for more information please contact: Marnie Slater 021 727 264, (04) 386 1753, marnie@scapebiennial.org.nz.
