A major exhibition featuring works by some of the School of Fine Arts' many illustrious graduates will be held at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu to celebrate the school's 125th anniversary.
The University of Canterbury's School of Fine Arts is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a series of events reflecting its long history of achievement.
Associated exhibitions will also be held at SoFA, the SFA Campus Gallery, the Christchurch Art Gallery, the Canterbury Museum, CoCA, 64zero3, Brooke Gifford Gallery, Campbell Grant Galleries, Dobson Bashford Gallery, Jonathan Smart Gallery, Papergraphica, The Arthouse and The Physics Room.
The art work of eight contemporary artists and the eight ancient treasures from the University of Canterbury’s James Logie Memorial Collection that inspired them will be exhibited together in the William A Sutton Gallery until February 2008.
Artists taking part in the exhibition are Sara Hughes, Jamie Richardson, Neil Pardington, Reuben Paterson, Marian Maguire, Liyen Chong, Tony de Lautour and Francis Upritchard.
The James Logie Memorial Collection is one of the finest collections of Greek and Roman antiquities in the southern hemisphere. It is housed in the University's Classics department.
