New mid-year enrolments at the University of Canterbury totalled 641 this year, up 18% on the 2002 figure, with increased growth in both domestic and international student numbers.

Of the total, 444 were domestic enrolments and 197 were of international students.

Marketing Manager Brigitte Murray said continuing progress with the semesterisation of courses was making mid-year enrolment an increasingly realistic possibility for students, and giving marketing staff a great deal more to promote.

International Manager Les Brighton said the largest intake was of study abroad students from the United States of America (85), followed by enrolments from students from the Peoples’ Republic of China (65).

He was particularly pleased by growth in the numbers from Europe (34), which included 14 Scandinavian study abroad students. The University’s roll now stands at 12,672.
