Photos of Colombo Street feature in SOFA show

Recent University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts photography graduate Uiga Bashford, has produced a photo essay that documents the places and people of Colombo Street, Christchurch, in 80 black and white images.
The exhibition, on show at the University’s SOFA Gallery at the Arts Centre of Christchurch until 25 January 2004, is part of an ongoing documentary project called A Place in Time which looks at the city of Christchurch and the lives of a cross section of its people.
A digital archive was established at the School of Fine Arts in January 2000. The archive comprises photography, audio recordings, oral history and documentary writing. The Colombo Street photographs are an important contribution to this collection.
Uiga Bashford was born at Christchurch Women's Hospital, Colombo Street, in 1979. Of Samoan and Palagi descent, she was raised in Little River, Banks Peninsula, attended Lincoln High School and this year completed her BFA honours (photography) from the School of Fine Arts, Canterbury University.
A Floor Talk on the Colombo Street exhibition and the Place in Time 21st Century Documentary Project will be given on Saturday 17 January at 2pm by the artist and Glenn Busch, Lecturer in photography at the School of Fine Arts will discuss.
