New Human Resources Director appointed

Paul O’Flaherty, currently Manager of the Westport Works of Holcim (New Zealand) and of Buller Port Services, has been appointed the University’s new Director of Human Resources.

Mr O’Flaherty has an extensive background in human resources, working as general manager of human resources at cement company Milburn from 1999-2001 and in a similar role for Health Care Hawkes Bay from 1995 to 1999.

While he was with Health Care Hawkes Bay he was part of the change management team with strategic and operational responsibility for building and staffing Hawkes Bay Hospital following the decision to integrate Napier and Hastings Hospitals.

Mr O’Flaherty began his career in retail banking with the National Bank, moving into human resources roles at head office and in Otago and Southland, before completing an MBA degree at Otago University and switching to the health sector.

He will take up the appointment on 2 August upon the retirement of the current Director, Associate Professor Bruce Jamieson.
