The National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE) at the University
of Canterbury has announced that Jamie Holder will be its next European
Parliament intern.
Jamie is completing a master’s degree at Canterbury University
and will begin her internship in September.
The internship programme provides post-graduate students with an opportunity
to work for a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and conduct research.
Former NCRE interns, such as PhD student Jeffrey McNeill, have found
the hands-on parliamentary experience critical to rounding out their
research and study of the European Union.
“Working within the system gives a depth of understanding that
no amount of reading books, journals or Internet pages can ever capture,”
he says.
Jeffrey spent six weeks with MEP Frau Ewa Klamt and a further six weeks
working in the Environment Committee Secretariat.
“My dissertation will take on a new dimension and incorporate
new material as a result of what I observed and my own reflections on
those observations.”
The National Centre for Research on Europe at Canterbury University
is the only dedicated European research centre in New Zealand.
It is a multi-disciplinary centre that operates nationally, uniting
students and scholars from a wide range of fields to research and study
European issues.
