It may be holiday time but the University of Canterbury is a hive of activity this week as thousands of school children converge on campus.

The University is holding Information Days today and tomorrow for anyone interested in attending university next semester or next year. Tours of the campus, the libraries, the Recreation Centre and halls of residence are part of the programme, along with special presentations and lectures in a wide range of subjects. Out-of-town visitors have doubled from last year with more than 180 staying at University Hall for a special taste of student life.

The Information Days helpdesk is in the Engineering block. There are also helpers wearing distinctive red jackets on campus to assist visitors. For a full timetable of events see http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/liaison/informationdays2004.shtml.

Uni for Kids is hosting a range of events from Wednesday to Friday as part of the school holiday KidsFest 2004. Children can get blown away in the wind tunnel in Mechanical Engineering, checkout the skeletons in the cupboards at Biological Sciences and make monster smoke rings in Chemical and Process Engineering.

On Thursday more than 70 talented Year 12 and 13 students will be attending the annual youth forum organised by the Golden Key International Honour Society, UC Chapter. This year’s topic is “The Impacts of Terrorism”, and students will gain insight from a variety of University of Canterbury lecturers and experienced counter terrorism specialist David Haslettt.
