29 July 2004
The National Centre for Research on Europe at the University of Canterbury will next week host Ambassador Martin Sajdik, Director General for European Integration and Economic Affairs in the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
His visit, during which he will present five public lectures, coincides with a week of planned events to highlight NCRE activities.
Ambassador Sajdik’s daily lectures at the centre will run from 11am to 12:30pm.
They will cover a wide range of EU-related issues such as maintaining neutrality and identity while working within common foreign and security policies and the benefits of EU membership for Western Balkan countries.
He will also discuss the prospect of Turkey and Russia becoming EU members.
An open day at the NCRE on Wednesday and a display in the UC central library are also planned.
The NCRE at Canterbury University is the only dedicated European research centre in New Zealand. It is a multi-disciplinary Centre of Academic Excellence and Expertise which unites students and scholars from a wide range of fields in research and study of European issues.
