Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade select committee will be at the University of Canterbury this Thursday (12 August) to meet with researchers at the National Centre for Research on Europe.

The nine MPs will discuss New Zealand’s relationship with the newly enlarged European Union with Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Sharp, NCRE director Professor Martin Holland and staff researchers Dr Natalia Chaban, Dr Malakai Koloamatangi and Dr Matthew Gibbons.

They will also be briefed on NCRE research and outreach activities, scholarships and internships.

“The meeting will challenge New Zealand foreign affairs policy-makers to focus on the new EU25 and how New Zealand should develop its relationship with the EU over the next 5 years,” Professor Holland says.

“We will discuss how the NCRE can facilitate new thinking on EU issues in New Zealand.”

The National Centre for Research on Europe at Canterbury University is the only dedicated European research centre in New Zealand. It is a multi-disciplinary centre that operates nationally, uniting students and scholars from a wide range of fields to research and study European issues.
