Undie 500’s mechanical mayhem returns

The annual challenge to buy a road-worthy car for less than $500, decorate it and get it to Dunedin in one piece will culminate this year on Friday, 20 August.

Last year more than 160 vehicles were involved in the Undie 500, described by Ralph Magazine as the jewel in the New Zealand pub crawl crown.

This year the number of vehicles will be limited to 150. They must be registered with a warrant of fitness, and have a sober driver.

The vehicles will be on display from 10am (Friday, 20 August) at the Arts carpark, off Clyde Road. At 11:30am rugby stars Caleb Ralph and Norm Maxwell will judge which vehicle is best decorated and which travellers are best dressed.

At about midday the convoy will depart for Dunedin, taking pre-determined breaks at several watering holes.
