SOFA Gallery’s latest exhibition showcases 24 artist prints by 24 of New Zealand’s leading artists.
The Print Project is SOFA Gallery’s major initiative for funding of the 2004-2005 exhibitions and residency programme and has been developed and curated by University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts senior lecturer Simon Ogden.
The exhibition represents a significant variety of print works by a diverse group of leading artists which includes established printmakers, painters, photographers and sculptors. Many of the artists have either studied or taught at the School of Fine Arts.
The artists are: Don Binney, Joanna Braithwaite, L Budd, Bill Culbert, Barry Cleavin, Shane Cotton, Denise Copland, Bing Dawe, Neil Dawson, Tony de Lautour, Jeremy Diggle, Andrew Drummond, Jason Greig, Fiona Gunn, Bill Hammond, Rob McLeod, Julia Morison, Simon Ogden, Don Peebles, Seraphine Pick, Peter Robinson, Carole Shephard, Catherine Shine and Philip Trusttum.
Canterbury trained printmaker, Kate Unger, has overseen the production of the intaglio prints from zinc plates supplied by the artists.
The exhibition, which opens tonight, runs until 23 January 2005.
SOFA Gallery is located in The Arts Centre, Christchurch. Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday-Sunday 12noon-4pm.
