A new business plan competition at the University of Canterbury aims to transform academic passion into practical innovation and reward the best from a prize pool of $50,000.
The Entré competition, which will be launched next Wednesday, is modelled on similar successful competitions run by universities worldwide.
The competitions help students and staff turn their ideas into real businesses and allow them to test their business plans against other competitors.
Entré participants will take part in two competitive events. The first will see 10 people rewarded with $1,000 each for having the best business ideas.
The second event will see teams competing for funding to set-up their businesses.
The prize pool has been funded by sponsors. Entré's principal sponsors
are PriceWaterhouse Coopers and Duncan Cotterill Lawyers.
As well as funding, the Entré programme will provide guidance on how to
turn an idea into a business.
The Fast Track Business Course will provide inspiration for competitors.
The course will feature presentations by members of Christchurch's business
community.
Entré will be officially launched at a function from 6pm on Wednesday April 20 in the concourse at Canterbury University's Engineering building. The guest speaker will be Dr Grant Ryan, founder of GlobalBrain.
