Industrial action at UC

Published by Communications and Development

1 August 2005

This Thursday (4 August) there will be another one-day strike involving University of Canterbury academic and general staff covered by collective agreements who belong to the Association of University Staff (AUS), the Public Service Association (PSA) and other combined unions.

Thursday's strike will follow a fortnight of industrial action at university campuses around the country.

As was the case during a previous one-day strike on 20 July, staff responsible for the central boiler plant will not be working on Thursday. Therefore, the campus-wide heating system will not be operating.

While lecture theatres will not be heated, they will be ventilated. It will be up to individual teaching staff who are not striking and their students to determine whether lectures will go ahead.

The Recreation Centre will be closed for the day. So too will the Central and Engineering libraries. The Physical Sciences, Law and Macmillan Brown libraries will be open. The Health Centre will be open.
