Plans for a third one-day strike at the University of Canterbury have been suspended.
On Monday, union representatives met with members of the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors' Committee. Yesterday, a proposal drawn up at that meeting was accepted by a majority of union members who attended meetings on campus.
While plans for another one-day strike are suspended, the timing of this decision may make it impossible to reverse plans for other action such as the cancellation of some lectures today (Wednesday).
The proposal which has been accepted by academic and general staff covered by collective agreements who belong to the Association of University Staff (AUS), the Public Service Association (PSA) and other combined unions does not resolve the current pay dispute.
Negotiations between the unions and the University will continue.
